Beer cats & kittens
[edit]It has been suggested by User:BrianSmithson and supported by User:Syrthiss that the Beer and brewery categories should be renamed. This proposal has been supported and expanded by myself. The notion is that the regional categories should follow the format of "Beer and breweries in Africa" /Europe/Asia/North America/South America/Oceania. "Brewers and breweries" could also be renamed "Beer and breweries by region". And all the countries should also be renamed (and merged if needed) as, for example, "Beer and breweries of Germany", "Beer and breweries of Britain", "Beer and breweries of Poland". The word in each case would be beer rather than beers to allow for general articles on beer culture in each region as well as individual beers.

Double linking
[edit]Hi Miwasatoshi. Thanks for taking the time to point out the rules, I didn't even know there was a problem. I do know about the double link rule, however I think when things are known by 2 names - common & scientific, then it's common sense to link both. A Wikipedia user might only have the scientific name, or only the common name, so both should be catered for. As they are actually different words (although pointing to the same article) there are actually 2 links which I don't think is what the Wikipedia rules intended (but I'm certainly not sure about that). Having both names linked in the same species list lets one see at a glance whether both names are linked correctly. Sometimes there are 2, 3, & even more common names, & all should be catered for.
It all seems to be a common sense issue to me, & I can't see any harm being done by both names being linked, only good. BTW, I have no sense of "ownership" of my articles, just want to put something back after so many years of diving. I'm going to continue working my way through the morwongs.... GrahamBould 16:53, 26 April 2006 (UTC)
- No worries, mate! As far as the morwong articles themselves, thanks for all the hard work! -- Miwa | Talk Contribs 21:59, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- OK, good. One last thing though. I vote to not having empty stub articles. The reason is that when you look at the main article there are no red links asking for articles to be written - you have to manually check each one. This just slows thing down, & the stubs are not helpful to anyone anyway, in my opinion. They ask for something to be written - well, so does the red link.
- Another thing, about double linking, I fully agree that when all species articles have been written then the second link should be removed as it would have served its purpose. But I'll go along with whatever the panel thinks - just wanted to explain my thoughts. There already are numerous fish 'species list' pages with double links.
- BTW, Kiwis don't use the 'No worries, mate' phrase, Aussies only. But maybe you found out that I spent 20 years in Australia!! GrahamBould 08:30, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- To the vote I totally agree -- I think a species stub should at least have range information, a basic physical description of what the dang thing looks like, and a taxobox. It shouldn't simply be a replacer for a redlink -- there needs to be some iota of actual content, more than "This is a fish (Obscurichthys wikipediensis)! (fish-stub)"
- Hopefully we'll finally get around to having a set WP:Policy on species lists. There are a mind-boggling array of formats, none of which are consistent, and I would love for some taxonomist to one day invent a bot to standardize the whole thing. Until then ... God only knows, and we improvise as best we can.
- As for the BTW ... I'm American (and not even American-born at that!), so I have even less excuse using the phrase than you do! Actually, that was entirely unintentional: but my uncle's from Nhill, Victoria, which explains why that's part of my standard lexicon.
- For the record, I still think Kiwis sound absolutely nothing like Aussies. It's like saying Canadians talk like Americans, when they really don't! Woo. Tangent. It's obviously past 1:30 am here. I should sleep, I do have a final project due within 24 hours.
- Cheers! -- Miwa * talk * contribs ^_^ 08:39, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

Nymphalis antiopa
[edit]Thanks for your comments, much appreciated.
With reference to ur specific comments I have tried to keep details in pages and fit them in where I can with my own text but sometimes I re-word them slightly so the text flows more smoothly. At the moment I am trying to get through the list of British Butterflies, so to start with they will be a bit 'anglocentric' as, living in the UK, these are the reference materials I currently have at hand. I do want to get more cosmopolitan details down for them as well and would appreciate anyone else adding info they have. Is there anyway we could add world distribution maps to the pages?
My spelling...hmmmmm, I know my spelling is aweful I should get a spell checker really!!!
Anyway thanks again for your comments and I hope you approve of any future additions I make. Bug boy 28 april 2006
- If you can find open-source distribution maps, that'd be great. I don't really know off-hand where to get them. Either way, if the existing text indicates that a species is found throughout a wide region, make sure that it continues to indicate as such after you're done. Cheers! -- Miwa * talk * contribs ^_^ 21:34, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Yakumo Tatsu serialization
[edit]Hi, just some clarification on the Yakumo Tatsu issue.
I own the Yakumo Tatsu tankoubons, which claim it was serialized in LaLa magazine.
I believe the confusion may arise from that all series running in LaLa are published under Hakusensha's "Hana to Yume Comics" imprint. Same thing goes for series published in LaLa DX, Bessatsu Hana to Yume, etc.
If you can read Japanese, this webpage shows where all Itsuki Natsumi's series have been serialized. Yakumo Tatsu is the third entry from the bottom, starting serialization in LaLa issue 4, 1995.

- Thanks for the clarification - that's exactly what I was looking for. Care to get everyone else's info corrected? ^_^ -- Miwa * talk * contribs ^_^ 16:01, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
About my userbox deletion nominations
[edit]I agree with what you said about some of my nominations being mainly about whether or not I found the userboxes funny or not, and I admit that this probably isn't legitimate criteria for deletion, though I didn't intend necessarily that they be permenantly deleted. They could have just been deleted from the template namespace.--Conrad Devonshire Talk 02:04, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

Hi Miwasatoshi!
I'm planning to send Stegosaurus to Featured Article candidacy. The article failed its first nomination, but user:Casliber and I have been hard at work fixing stuff. As you're listed as a member of Wikipedia: WikiProject Dinosaurs, I figured I'd drop you a line and see if there was anything you thought should be added/removed/cited on the article before it is sent to FAC. Hidenokuni
[edit]Hi, I found your page User:Miwasatoshi/List of non-Japanese sumo wrestlers very interesting. Do you plan to make this "live"? I'm particularly interested in Hidenokuni, a.k.a. Nathan Strange, the only ever British rikishi. Do you have any more information about this guy? I've tried googling, and there's very little about him. Best regards. --Auximines 18:23, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for replying. I also found this page [2], which contradicts the one you mention (says he got negative scores)! I'm not sure I can even write a stub on that basis! Anyway, looking forward to your list going live. --Auximines 23:16, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- Another larticle in the same list you mention claims Hidenokuni did well. A News of the World article reported here claims that he had a lot of sex while in Japan. This article confirms Hidenokuni lost to Musashi Maru and states that their bout took place with the wrestlers coming in from the wrong sides. I wonder where Mr. Strange is now. There is a rugby player/health and fitness trainer and "Action Man" from Essex now in China walking for charity but I think he is four years too young. It fits however, with this message from the mailing list you quote which has Hidenokuni coming from "Herne Bay in Essex".--Timtak 09:46, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. After reviewing the project it appears that there haven't been much active discussion on the talk page in some time and the only content updates appear to be simple maintenance so being supported by a larger project might be beneficial. I have begun a discussion on the projects talk page to see how the members of the project feel about this suggestion. Another user has added the project to the WPUS template and I added it to the list of supported projects in the WPUS main project page but before I take any further action I wanted to contact each of the active members for their input. --Kumioko (talk) 20:22, 7 August 2011 (UTC)

Yellow-breasted chat
[edit]I am the author of the article about Dolichonyx oryzivorus in the Spanish Wikipedia and I found a paper that said that the bobolink, an icterid, is closely related to the yellow-breasted chat. When I wrote that in the article’s taxonomy section, it aroused some controversy due to the fact that the yellow-breasted chat was originally classified as a parulid. Then I resorted to the article in English about this bird to learn more about its taxonomy and it suggested that its classification as a parulid is obsolete. I saw in the history page of that bird’s article that you’d made several contributions to it and I was wondering if knew anything about its current classification. Have you heard or read anything about its phylogenetic links with Icteridae? If you happen to know any free-access paper available in the internet about this matter, I’d appreciate you let mi know in my talk. Thank you! --Pablo.ea.92 (talk) 10:47, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

about "Müllers"
[edit]Dear Editor!
I noticed that in enwiki articles (and therefore in other Wikipedias as well) in some of the infoboxes of animals not the proper zoologist's name is shown.
For example in the article List of authors of names published under the ICZN.
Salomon Müller (1804–1864) is shown as "S. Müller", while Johannes Peter Müller (1801–1858) is simply "Müller". However, in many articles the "Müller" link points to "Salomon Müller".
I think that the link "Müller" should refer to "Salomon Müller". There are two examples for it: Exilisciurus; Celebes Dwarf Squirrel.
The following zoologists can be found in their list:
- Müller – Johannes Peter Müller (1801–1858) mainly fish
- O.F.Müller – Otto Friedrich Müller (1730–1784) insects, fauna of Scandinavia
- P.L.S.Müller, Müller – Philipp Ludwig Statius Muller (1725–1776) birds, insects, some mammals and others
- S.Müller – Salomon Müller (1804–1864) mainly fauna of Indonesia

Speedy deletion nomination of Mr. Ed Jumps the Gun
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Mr. Ed Jumps the Gun requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Epeefleche (talk) 03:50, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Proposed deletion of Joga (group)
[edit]The article Joga (group) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Fails GNG: Unable to identify any independent, reliable sources in any language offering more than a trivial mention.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Thanks for you work updating this - it looks great. I had long been aware of your article and although I wasn't responsible for moving it into article space I hope you will agree that it does not look out of place with the other sumo list articles we have. I had one question about the sourcing - I presume you didn't use Sumo Reference as I don't think it exixted when you originally created the article. Did you use Japanese sources? I will be continuing to add line by line citations but it might be help to add your sources as well.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 12:28, 21 September 2016 (UTC)
I used Japanese sources at the onset of this mini-project. Parsing katakana into original spellings was, and remains one heck of a minefield. Miwa * talk * contribs ^_^ 21:29, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
Asian 10,000 Challenge invite
[edit]Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 11:14, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

non Japanese sumo wrestlers
[edit]Hello, I am one of the more active and long term contributors to sumo info on English Wikipedia. When I saw the article "non Japanese wrestlers" pop up, I was concerned that it would never be properly finished because of the work involved. But you came through there. I was additionally concerned that it would soon fall behind in being updated, and this has happened. As you are the one who started the article and got it up to snuff could I ask you to update the list from time to time? The best time for this would be when the new rankings - banzuke -come out every two months as new "best ranks" are the most common change. Other changes could be handled on a more ad hoc basis (name changes, retirements etc). One of the things I try to do is to make sure all of our articles are kept up to date but I have too many articles where I handle this to tackle such a prodigious list as the non-Japanese one. Having said that I did go in a few hours ago and update all necessary wrestlers - assuming they are no new non Japanese last basho. The time it took is what prompted me to contact you. Thanks for listening. FourTildes (talk) 22:47, 10 April 2017 (UTC)

List of crossings of the Llano River moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, List of crossings of the Llano River, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:

2019 US Banknote Contest
[edit]US Banknote Contest | ||
---|---|---|
November-December 2019 | ||
There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate. If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here |
